We have a new chilla! [21 Jul 2004|11:32am]
[ mood | giggly ]

It's been a while since I've updated, but I just wanted to post that on July 11th James and I drove to Minerva to pick up our little mosaic baby, who we've named Triscuit!! He is so little and adorable!!

We spent the night at my parents' the night before, and drove the longass drive to Minerva that day. The town was a bit shady (sorta out in the middle of nowhere) but the breeder (Troy) was super nice and hooked us up with a bunch of Triscuit's food and oat supplement and alfalfa cubes and dust bath! There actually happened to be 2 male mosaics (brothers) so we got our pick. He thought the one was a female at first, but then realized he was a boy. (Easy to do!) We ended up picking the one we thought we were getting all along--he was a lot smaller than his brother and had a darker grey face. The other one was so cute though...I wish we could have taken both!! The other one temperament-wise was probably better..."our" chin seemed more nibbly/bitey and seems more shy, but he was just soooo much cuter. During the drive home he wasn't shy at all though! He even got caught in my hoop earring--that's how tiny he is!!

We have all of his info...he was born May 29, 2004 to a mosaic mother (Gizzy) and a standard father (Skooter). Here are some pics that Troy sent us just about 2 weeks before we got him (he was probably 4 weeks in this picture?)

Triscuit's on the far right, and that's his mom and brother to the left. What a cute little family!

I'm pretty sure that's Triscuit and his mommy.

We've taken some more pictures of him but I need to upload them to this computer still. That night we held both of our chinnies and let them rub noses (probably bad for the quarantine phase, but I think it's ok) and Pocky snapped at Triscuit! When they were on the bed together Triscuit kept following Pocky, but Pocky gave chase and kinda nipped at him again. It kinda sucks that they are already having problems, but after we clean the apartment we are going to put the cages close together and finally let them run around. I just pray that they get along!!

Triscuit eats a ton and he loves hopping around on his wheel. He hasn't figured out what things are chew toys, because he nips a lot. Not out of malice or anything--I just think he doesn't know any better yet.

Pocky is mega jealous too. If we go see Triscuit first and give him too much attention, Pocky becomes despondent and will push our hands away when we try to pet him. It's mega cute but kinda sad too!! I bet everything will work out ok though. Pocky knows he will always be our number one chinchilla.

Triscuit is soooo tiny. I keep saying that I don't want him to grow, but James can't wait until he's as gigantic as our fat little Pocky boy!
In other news I have a cute story from last night. I felt queasy during the night and our bedroom was hot, so I left for the living room where it's cooler--and where the noisy wheel-running chinchillas are. I got into Triscuit's cage and laid down his wheel--it's one of those smaller plastic wheels from the pet store. He looked so confused, like, "I can't run on this anymore!" He did seem content climbing on it though. He's such a curious little guy.

Pocky on the other hand wasn't so calm. I had to actually unbolt and remove his wheel from his cage since it's a Leo Braun. He looked so hurt!! He kept circling around the space where the wheel had been. It was kinda sad, but necessary because if I was going to sleep out there, the wheels had to go.

I turned off the light and got cozy on the couch, and not five minutes into my rest, Pocky started whining. Over and over again. I felt like a big ol' meanie so I turned the light on to get his wheel back in. Triscuit was wide awake, perched on top of his tipped over wheel, wondering what all of the crying was about.

So I opened Pock's cage and set the wheel upright to re-bolt it back in. Pocky got so excited that he hopped inside the wheel and tried to run! The only problem was that the wheel was sitting on it's side, unable to spin, so Pocky just sorta kept sliding down the inside of the wheel. It was pretty hilarious!!

As soon as I got it hooked up, Pocky took off on the wheel and ran up a storm. Because I had been such a meanie, I went to get him a dried cranberry. It was hilarious though--I don't think this has ever or will ever happen again--but he was completely disinterested in the treat! He kinda looked at it and kept running. I finally waved the treat in front of his face and it got his attention. I let him take it from my fingers, he placed it in his mouth and hopped back on the wheel again and started running! WTF?! Eventually he stopped running, took the treat out of his mouth into his little paw, and started snacking away on it. I don't think that Pocky has ever put anything before getting a treat, but this time the wheel was obviously more important!

I put Triscuit's wheel back up too, but he definitely wasn't quite as interested in it as Pocky was!

Oh, BTW... [12 Jun 2004|04:26pm]
[ mood | excited ]

We are considering getting Pocky a little cagemate, and here's the one we are probably going to buy!! He's a mosaic from Minerva, Ohio...born on May 29th. He's only 100 bucks and the breeder, Troy, sounds really nice. We're going to put a $25 deposit on him, and when he's weaned after the July 4th weekend we can pick him up!

We were in talks with this nice breeder named Stephanie in Xenia but I haven't heard from her in a few weeks so I don't know what's happened. She had some potential ebony kits that we were considering buying. I know that I wasn't totally frequent with the PMing at chins-n-quills, so it's definitely not her fault at all. Maybe we will still buy a chin from her in the future!!

But anyway, isn't this little kit so cute?!?!?! I'll keep y'all posted on that situation. What do you think we should name him? James and I really like the name Button, and even though that's a super cute name, it might be too plain for such a neato chinnie. Any ideas??

Pocky Pics! [12 Jun 2004|04:21pm]
[ mood | sore ]

I've got a couple of new Pocky pics to post!! These were taken within the last week or so. Pocky has gotten sooooo huge!

Pocky LOVES dried mangos!

Yeah, nice bra strap there Mandy. You can see Pocky's cage in the background. We still haven't gotten that hugeass cage all together yet.

Pocky was playing with a box that some of his food and toys from Lonestar Chinchilla which is an AWESEOME place!

Pocky sure loves napping during the day!! He reminds me of a kitty cat sometimes. :o)

I've been violated! [25 Apr 2004|10:16am]
[ mood | touched ]

Not last night, but the night before, Pocky humped my hand HARDCORE (I think he's well into chinnie puberty because his testicles have dropped and he's been humping a lot) and when I looked at my hand after he was done, I noticed a drop of chinnie spooge on it!! WTF?! It was hilarious, gross and cute all at the same time! Now I can officially say I've been jizzed on by my chin! (Not so sure that's a thing I should be bragging about!)

BTW, my mood on this entry is "touched" - but not for the usual reasons! ;o)

Totally slacked off on this diary! [23 Apr 2004|10:40am]
[ mood | crazy ]

I just wanted to make a quick entry to say that Pocky is GREAT and a lot of things have happened since last time I updated...

  • The new cage arrived and it's soooo badass! We haven't moved Pocky into it though because we need to make badass shelves in it.
  • We have figured out a way to let Pocky run around the kitchen (using the box that the cage came in to block off the entrance) and Pocky loves it!! He's becoming so much more tame. (Need to talk about this more in depth, like how he steals magnets!)
  • He LOVES papaya spears!
  • I need to talk about the story of Pocky doing a ninja flip off of the wall...
  • We moved his cage from the music room to the living room where the air conditioning is...it's a much more hospitable environment for chinnies now that it's getting warmer!
  • I think I have about a billion other things to talk about, but they will come to me later!

    Jay & Pocky [12 Mar 2004|08:54am]
    [ mood | sick ]

On Tuesday (3/9) Sonny's best friend from college, Jay, came for a visit. We went out to eat, but later on he came over to James and my apartment and got to meet Pocky. Pocky really took a liking to Jay! Out of everyone who has ever "met" Pocky, Jay seemed the most comfortable around him. He even was so bold to give Pocky a treat, and then take it back! We were cracking up laughing, because Pocky looked so confused. It was kinda unfair, but it was soooo funny!

We took a couple of pictures of Jay holding Pocky, and then Sonny took a few pics of James and me with Pocky--kind of like a cheesy "family picture"--it looks pretty funny!

That's not the kind of Pocky you're supposed to eat! ;o)

    Awww!

Sonny said we should Photoshop the background to put us in a park or some other cheesy setting, and put "Olan Mills" in the corner. Haha! And I'm not sure why I'm holding James' stomach like he's carrying our child!

wheel and cage!! [07 Mar 2004|07:54pm]
    [ mood | excited ]

The wheel came Friday and it is SO awesome! The new cage is supposed to arrive on Wednesday! I'm going to wait to take pics of the wheel until the cage comes and is all set up so y'all can see the full pimpass effect!!

James and I went to a funky music festival yesterday...here's a pic of us there!

We are so dorky...we kept talking about how we missed our little Pocky so much! He's like our child!

And since I posted a pic of us, I should post a recent one of Pocky...

He loves hanging out underneath things! He looks kind of scared in that pic though, hehe. I love when he kinda squishes into a circular form--like a little fluffball!

    New cage!! [04 Mar 2004|12:37am]
    [ mood | excited ]

Maybe I'm insane, but I HAD to buy this cage for Pocky! I just ordered it online tonight, and it cost (not to be rude and talk prices) $367.83, which includes the five dollar shipping--that's a super great deal since the thing is 70 lbs! But I just love Pocky so much and I know that he would have such a fun time in this cage!! Our friend Zach (it's so nice getting to the point where we consider James' friends MY friends too!) said something like "Why would you get a desert rat a $400 cage? It's probably going to die in a year!" And then when he saw it, he was like "That's a fuckin' badass cage!!" Even despite the jokes he makes about Pocky, he thinks he's sooo adorable!! ;o)

    Here are the specs:

  • six sided hexagonal shape and contoured roof make this attractive cage a welcome addition to any room
  • 68" x 36" (legs make up 8 inches of the overall height)
  • 2 large easy access sure-lock doors (approx 14 inch square) and two small doors (approx 5 inches square)
  • 2 bottom fitted trays are easily accessed via slotted openings
  • 2 two drop-though pull-out grills which rest atop the pull out trays
  • cage is mounted on six large casters
  • assembly time takes an hour to an hour and half and the only tools needed are a flat head (slotted) screwdriver and a pliers
  • safe powder-coated paint
  • 1/2 inch bar spacing
  • easy access, easy lock doors
  • we got it in this really pretty charcoal color

It's going to arrive in 5-7 days!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!

And the Leo Braun wheel is going to be here Friday! Pocky is going to be such a spoiled chinnie!!!

Geez, for the amount we've spent on Pocky, we could have implemented our original plan of getting a Yorkshire Terrier. Even though I still hope I have a puppy one day, I would never trade him in for one!! I'm so glad we got a chinchilla instead. :o)

    Pocky Rap! [28 Feb 2004|01:14pm]
    [ mood | amused ]

Sonny made a rap about Pocky!!! I literally laughed out loud when I read this...

    P to tha O tha C-K-Y
    It's tha chinchilla thrilla
    with mischief in my eye
    with a few choice squeaks
    I'll terrorize your rhymes
    I only bite treats,
    I don't ever bite lines
So put down the L, and back the fuck out
thats not weed it's alfalfa sprouts
That's dried pineapple, not a rock of crack
So like I said put down the L and step the fuck back

    POCKY
    Power Of Chinchilla Kills Ya
    POCKY
Oh yes the power of Chinchilla Kills Ya

    I wake up
    it's sometime after dusk
think I'll indulge in a bit of dust
not PCP, I don't snort that stuff
I need it for my coat so it softens up
gotta keep it shiny gotta keep it plush
gotta keep it well groomed, hand me that brush
Gonna hop on my wheel, 18 inches so tight
that bitches get tans when it reflects tha light
That niggas see red when I set my pace
too bad my rides stuck in one place.

    (Chorus)

Oh shit. Stop that beat! My owna just discovered that I'm packing meat
I said hold up! Stop that flow, I just found out I got balls down below....

    (Chorus)

    Fade....

    She's got a penis! [27 Feb 2004|11:41pm]
    [ mood | relaxed ]

Well, yesterday (which happened to be our first monthiversary of being chinchilla owners!) I confirmed that Pocky is in fact a boy!! I came home after my Micro class (BTW, I got a 95% on my last test in there! Go me!) and just had to put the uncertainty to rest. I had to know...RIGHT THEN!

Someone from that chins-n-quills website that I posted my gender problem to said that I should just do a hair ring check to know for sure...if it's a boy, it will work...if it's a girl, she'll just get pissed off.

So I went into her room, reached into the cage, and she started chewing on my watch. She was kind of standing up, so I was able to see the "cone" easily. I reached down and pulled the skin back...and out popped a penis! The weird thing was that she--erm, HE--didn't seem to mind me groping around down there. I guess that's a good thing, since I would think that means that he trusts me pretty well to let me feel him up like that. I don't care though, I still feel weird feeling up my chinchilla. Wait, doesn't that sound like slang for female masturbation? "Oh baby, I felt up my chinchilla all night!" ANYWAY...

I walked out into the other room where James was (as well as Sonny and Adam) and I said, "I have bad news...I confirmed that Pocky is in fact a boy...she has a penis!" and told them all about what just happened. James said he's still going to call him a "her," even though he's called him a "him" a few times. I don't want to fool myself...I'm going to start referring to him as a boy. It's been really difficult though. It's so hard to totally switch my gender paradigm like that! I know that it completely has to do with society and gender roles.

I know that I said I would be sad if she ended up being a he, but I honestly just feel better knowing for sure. Isn't knowing half the battle, according to GI Joe, or something like that? Either way, I'm just glad I know for sure. I would rather know he's a boy than think he's a girl. I love him just as much, but I do admit that I think differently about him now.

I'm at my parent's house for the weekend. I miss James and Pocky so much! I just hope my boys can survive without me! ;o)

BTW, I know exactly how insanely dorky it is to have a journal about my pet...I just wanted to clarify that in case you didn't think I was aware!

    In denial [25 Feb 2004|01:04pm]
    [ mood | crappy ]

I think it's becoming more and more obvious that our little girl is in fact a little boy. I've always had this suspicion, but I guess I never really wanted to believe it. When we first decided to get Pocky, I wasn't sure what she was, and I didn't really care. I think I secretly wanted her to be a girl though. When the people at the pet store said they thought she was a girl, I was really happy! We called back the next day and the manager confirmed what the sales associates said. However, the more I researched chinchillas on the internet, Pocky's "junk" definitely seemed to resemble a boy's bits. James kept saying not to worry about it, so I just made myself forget about it.

For some reason, last night I decided to look up more info on the internet. I keep seeing Pocky going "down there" to check herself, and I thought that's only something that the male chins do. The more information I found about sexing a chinchilla, the more Pocky seemed like a boy.

I expressed my concern to James and he just said, "Why does it matter? She's a girl!" I think he may be in denial. Without really saying it, I think he really wants her to be a girl. I told him that we should know because if she is in fact a boy, we have to check for hair rings monthly so she doesn't get an infection. He said if she ends up having a penis, can we continue to call her a girl? I guess it wouldn't really matter, because she would be the same chin no matter what, but I don't think I could purposely call her a "she" when she really is a "he". I know it would take a while to get used to calling her a he and referring to her as "our little boy" instead of "our little girl" but I don't think I could ever just pretend that she's a girl when I know she's a boy.

I think James wants to stay blissfully ignorant on the matter, because if we never get the confirmation that she's not a girl, it will be easier to think she is a girl. I don't think that is practical though...we really should know the gender of our Pocky because boys and girls have different needs and we need to be prepared for the change. Also, we can't go on fooling ourselves because we will most likely take her to the vet sometime, and I'm sure the vet would inform us of our mis-sexing of our pet. I think the sooner we find out, the easier it will be to shift our gender paradigm.

With that being said, I wish she could be a girl. Maybe I like that she's a girl because I'm a girl, and I think girls are just overall cooler that boys. ;o) Maybe it's because that if I ever have children, I want to have little girls. Not that I wouldn't love to have a boy, but I just seem to prefer girls. I love Pocky either way, and she's still the same little chinchilla...but I think I'll be sad if we find out that she has been sexed incorrectly.

    I think "she" is a "he"!! [25 Feb 2004|01:24am]
    [ mood | crushed ]

I just posted this over at chins-n-quills...and should probably post it here since I haven't had an update in a while. I actually have a lot to update on, but I NEED to vent about this!!

OK, I need all of your professional opinions on this!!

I searched this entire forum on all the posts about sexing a chinchilla, and have searched the internet for as much info as I could, particularly pictures, but I still would love to have your opinions.

Ever since we got little Pocky I had this suspicion that she is in fact a "he". After looking at all of the info, I really do think she's a dude!!! Here are my "facts"...

  • I've noticed that she's kinda goes "down there" like she's cleaning. I can't really see what she is doing, but that was my first clue to that she might be a dude and is checking for hair rings or whatever.

  • She seems to have a space between her anus and the cone thing...they're definitely not right smack up against each other.

  • There seems to be that ridge thing (that kinda looks like that ridge of skin underneath your tounge? I read that sexing description on some site...) along the side of the cone that's closest to the anus.

  • She does appear to have a slit, but it seems that it's running down the side opposite that of her anus...maybe the opening to the actual penis and not the vaginal slit? Because I thought if there was a slit, it had to be going from her cone down to the anus?

  • The tip of the cone seems more pointy than round.

  • I was able to touch it tonight while she was chewing on my watch, and it seems the upper half of it is flappy, but the lower half seems like there might be something harder in it...mayhaps the penis?

  • I couldn't actually manage to pull it out, like how one would for checking for hair rings, mostly because I was too scared!! I'm not even sure how I would manage to pull anything out anyway!

  • Ok, ok...I did get her from a petstore (Please no mean comments! I didn't know much about chins before--she's my first chinnie so I was inexperienced...plus I wanted a "pet" and not anything to breed, so I guess it's ok!) and the workers there all said she was a chick...and I even called back the next day to confirm with the manager, and he said the breeder he gets their chinchillas from usually gives them girls. I know know that this is by no means a professional opinion, so whatever this dude said is probably meaningless!!

Tomorrow or the next day I'm going to try to take a picture of it, because it seems like in past posts you guys can use your expertise and easily differentiate between a male and a female. I'm hoping you peeps can help me out! Until then, does what I've said seem to match up to Pocky being a boy?

    ---------side-rant---------

Is that weird of me to be kinda sad that she could be a boy? I know she's gonna be just the same sweet little chinchilla either way, but I've gotten SO used to calling her "my little girl" and stuff, I think it will be so hard to change!!

    It's been a while... [16 Feb 2004|11:54am]
    [ mood | drained ]

I've slacked off writing in this, and I haven't even written in my regular diary over at Bloop since the 5th, but I wanted to upload some pics to put in here. Pocky has been sooooooooo cute!

She had just taken a dustbath and she looks totally different! Her fur is so light. You can even see how the light reflected off the dust bath crystals! James absolutely loves this pic.

Another one of her after the dustbath...

This picture cracked me up! She was hopping into the dustbath!! Hahaha!

This one was taken a couple of days after that. She looked so cute sleeping on that huge toilet paper tube! She almost looks like she's meditating! She loves that thing...she constantly carries it around her cage.

Her Leo Braun wheel hasn't come yet, but I'm sure it will be here this week. We are so excited!

    New Pics!!! [10 Feb 2004|02:12pm]
    [ mood | giddy ]

I just now took some new pics of Pocky! :o) I'm gonna post pictures of the new additions to the cage when the Leo Braun wheel comes in...but here are some pics of her for now!

She looks SO PRECIOUS when she's sleeping!

After I came in she woke up a little and let me pet her under her chin...

I put the camera inside her cage for a good Pocky-perspective picture!

I just love Pocky!! Hopefully tonight if she decides to let us take her out of her cage, I'll be able to get some more cute pictures!

Today is play day! [10 Feb 2004|01:42pm]
    [ mood | relaxed ]

I'm so happy...since I don't have class tonight, James and I are going to let Pocky out for a while so she can run around. I LOVE it when we let her out of her cage and she hops around! Maybe our friend Sonny can come back over and wear his alfalfa shirt for her to chew on? ;o) We usually don't let her out everyday at this stage because I don't want to push her. If she is too freaked out tonight to come out we won't force her into it, but I hope she's willing enough to let James carefully pick her up! Putting her back into the cage is always so hard--you can tell she never wants playtime to be over! Even though I feel that we have provided a nice home for her, sometimes I feel so guilty about putting her in a cage at all. I know it's not feasible to have her run free around the house...but I still feel bad. Maybe I just personify her too much because I know that *I* wouldn't like to be in a cage. At least that nice Leo Braun wheel is on its way so she has something better to get exercise on!

Speaking of cages, I recently met a super nice chin owner over at Chins-n-Quills named Misha. *waves to Misha!* She is also an Ohio chin owner, which rocks because it's always great meeting people from your same state! Her little chinnie is named Peanut and he's just as cute as a button. She's got an awesome chinnie website that you guys should check out at http://www.personal.kent.edu/~manaya/peanut/. Peanut is probably the luckiest chin ever because he has the most fantastic cage I've EVER seen! Here's a pic--if you wanna see more you've just gotta check out her site!

Is that not the coolest cage you've ever seen?

And there's the adorable little chinnie who gets to live there. How cute!

Isn't her chin so cute, and isn't that cage amazing? Her dad is a very talented woodworker. That's seriously such a gorgeous piece of furniture! Mad props to Misha's dad! ;o)

OK, time to get my butt in gear and do some schoolwork. I can't wait until August when this program will be over!

More chinnie goods! [09 Feb 2004|11:50pm]
    [ mood | good ]

Last night ROCKED! We went to Petsmart in Beavercreek and bought Pocky sooo much stuff! I bought her 2 extra wooden perches, two packs of chew block things, and some premium chinchilla food. James bought her a different type of perch, a bath house for her dust baths, a new water bottle, and I think some other stuff but I can't remember it all. Together we spent over 60 bucks--she's so spoiled! :o) We put them in her cage and she LOVES the new perches! She kept hopping up on them and looking around. It's so adorable!

THEN we went online and James bought her one of those 15" Leo Braun wheels. I can't wait for it to get here! It's gonna be so fun for her. :o) James and I were laughing about how excited we are for that wheel to come and it's not even for us!

Tonight I at school during the break I took a trip to the ladies' room and found one of those economy-sized toilet paper rolls almost gone. I took the rest of the toilet paper off of it and put it in my purse to bring home to Pocky. I put it in her cage last night and she LOVED it! It's really big and wide and it was so cute to watch her try to carry it around in her mouth. She also kept trying to put her head in it, and then would freak out and pull it out really fast!! She's such a silly little chinnie.

She really seems to love us a lot. Today it's been only TWO WEEKS since we've had her and she's really come around nicely. She will let us pet her back and she won't run off (most of the time) and she always lets us pet her underneath her chin. Anytime we come in the room she comes up to the cage and sniffs around. She even gives James kisses on his lips! (I'm still a little freaked out at the chance of her "test biting" my lip--I don't want to freak out and then in turn freak her out! Hehehe! I'm just soooo glad that she is such a nice little chinnie!

Good boy chinchilla name! [08 Feb 2004|12:30pm]
    [ mood | chipper ]

I was cuddling with James the other day and I said, "If we had a boy chinchilla, you know what would be a really good name for him? Porno!" James really liked that name a lot! It definitely fits him and his love of "the art,", and it's off-the-wall enough for us! So if we ever got a boy, it would be Pocky and Porno. How weird is that? Placed on a chinchilla, Porno sounds like a cute name! You could probably name a chinchilla fetus-eater and somehow it would sound cute because chinchillas are just so darn adorable! Well, maybe "fetus-eater" is a stretch...

James woke up early today, and then I made him come back to bed with me and cuddle, and then he just fell back asleep. It's 12:30pm and he's still asleep. We were going to get breakfast at First Watch, but I think it's gonna close soon. We definitely will still go to Fairborn to the petstore! I will drag him there if that's what it takes! ;o)

    play time! [08 Feb 2004|03:20am]
    [ mood | uncomfortable ]

Sonny came over tonight and we all started watching "JSA" (some Korean flick that was really, really good!) and James left for a bit. He seemed to be gone for a good 10-20 minutes and I thought he was in the bathroom...but he had went in and checked on Pocky, and she started to climb up his arm and she actually let him pick her up and take her out of the cage! So he was in the music/chinchilla room letting Pocky run around. :o) I went in with him while Sonny watched the movie alone (poor Sonny!) but he eventually came in and hung out with Pock. It was hilarious--she kept climbing on him and biting at his shirt! His shirt had these green stripes and I said that she probably thought it was alfalfa or something! She also sat on my face twice but I started to laugh and it scared her off. She went in her dustbath a few times and Sonny thought that was pretty funny. He's very indifferent about chinchillas, but I think he might have come around more tonight after Pocky was so friendly to him. He said that he finds the whole situation weird how we had been talking about Yorkies so much, and then one night out of the blue we come home with a chinchilla, and now that's all we talk about. My answer to that was we had never really seen a chinchilal before, but once we saw Pocky we knew we had to get her!!

Time to go to bed...it's after 3am! My face is all itchy from the dustbath stuff and I think I got some in my eye...that's why my mood says "uncomfortable"...it's the only one that fit! I wish they had "itchy" on there.

degrees of trust [07 Feb 2004|05:08pm]
    [ mood | lazy ]

Someone at Chins-n-Quills told me about this site that had a list of the different degrees of trust. I'm going to bold where we are with Pocky!

  • It hides and won’t come out. It will not even look at you.
  • It hides, but likes to keep an eye on you.
  • It begins to come toward you, but runs away and hides again.
  • It approaches the cage bars/mesh where you are.
  • It takes a treat from your fingertips, runs away, hides and eats it.
  • It takes a treat from your fingertips and stays and eats it.
  • It inspects your fingers for treats and may nibble.
  • It plays with your fingers and wants check out your arm.
  • It allows you to scratch its chin or face or behind its ears.
  • It wants to climb on your arm, shoulder, or head.
  • It allows you to touch its back, but may run away when you do.
  • It allows you to touch its back without running away.
  • It allows you to touch its tail.
  • It allows you to slide your hand under its belly.
  • It allows you to lift it in part or in whole without distress.
  • It likes to sniff noses with you, groom you, generally be near you.

We are sorta between where she will and won't run away. She hasn't run away for a while, but I can tell sometimes she's annoyed when we rub her back. It only took little Pock a few hours to blow through the first eight! Hehe. We are very lucky chin owners!

I'm so excited--if James and I can get our butts moving, we're going to go to Beavercreek and check out the "nice" petstore there! Hopefully we can get Pocky a surprise. We had this "puppy fund" back when we wanted to get a Yorkie with about 150 bucks (in CHANGE!) in a jar...but I think we should just use it for Pocky because we won't be getting a dog anytime soon. We want to get one of those nice Leo Braun wheels that are $90-100. I think we should use it for that!

Is that thing badass or what?

Anyway...I'm gonna FINALLY take a shower! I'm such a lazybutt.
